Snug as a Bug: A First Time Parent's Guide to Baby Sleeping Bags

Snug as a Bug: A First Time Parent's Guide to Baby Sleeping Bags

When you become a parent for the first time, one of the many things you will be wondering is how to keep your baby safe, warm and comfortable when they sleep. This is why lots of parents choose Baby Sleeping Bags because they can provide a peace of mind and better sleep for both baby and you. Scroll to read our tog guidelines and top sleeping bag tips below 🫶

Why Baby Sleeping Bags?
They offer a safer sleep environment for your little one. No loose blankets to worry about kicking off, which means fewer sleep disruptions for both baby and you. They also provide a consistent level of warmth, ensuring your little one stays snug all through the night or nap time.

What is a TOG rating?
TOG (Thermal Overall Grade) rating is a measure of the insulation level of a fabric. The higher the TOG rating, the warmer the sleeping bag will be. For baby sleeping bags, TOG ratings typically range from 0.5 to 3.5, with 2.5 TOG being the most common for standard room temperatures.

When to Use 2.5 TOG
A 2.5 TOG baby sleeping bag is ideal for use in Spring, Autumn and Winter when room temperatures are between 10-20°C. This TOG rating provides ample warmth to keep your baby comfortable during cooler nights. It's your go to for use in most seasons, except for very hot or very cold days. Shop our 2.5 TOG Sleeping Bags here.

When to Use 1 TOG
A 1 TOG baby sleeping bag is suitable for use for the warm Summer days, when room temperatures are between 21-23°C. It provides moderate insulation without overheating your babe. Shop our 1 TOG Sleeping Bags here.

When to Use 0.5 TOG
Use a 0.5 TOG sleeping bag for the heatwave Summer days when room temperatures are between 24°C-27°C, to keep your baby as cool as possible, while also keeping them comfortable.

Useful Tips

  • Don't use any blankets or duvets over the sleeping bag. This can cause overheating or pose suffocation risks.
  • Dress your little one in light, breathable clothing under the sleeping bag. Avoid overdressing to prevent overheating.⁣⁣⁣
  • Check regularly to make sure your baby isn't too hot or too cold by feeling their chest or back – hands and feet might be chilly, but that's normal.
  • Having a thermometer handy is always a good idea!
